Vanos Solenoid
It may depend upon which ‘40d’ equipped car they refer too. No mention on N57 or B57 (the later engine) for the X5 or X6. The M57 engine didn’t have it either. I’m not clear what purpose it would serve on a diesel as it’s compression ignition not spark. BMW use injection pulse control to adapt power ...

My understanding is that the N57 diesel engine isn’t fitted with Vanos. There are no parts referring to such in the parts database. I thought Vanos was only used on petrol engines. What are you looking at that is telling you your engine does have Vanos fitted?

Given it did what it’s supposed to do, it’s probably unlikely or you’d never be able to open the boot with the key. I’ve not seen an option such as that in any BMWs where the key can open the tailgate and there’s nothing on my G26 with idrive 8.
The ‘quick fix’ would be to get a key cover as those ...

That would likely do it, but there’s no information in the Technical Instruction System for doing such. That usually means BMW will only replace, not repair (very common!). An AC shop might have the guidance. I think people have done it on the E53 so that might give you pointers.

You will need to do the following (this is the list for a 2.0D):
Caution !
In the event of a mechanical air conditioning compressor failure and the resulting ingress of chips into the refrigerant circuit, replace the following parts:
Air conditioning compressor
Air conditioning condenser

Budget E70 going to bite me?
When were the fluids last changed? I had some odd things with my X6 that vanished after all if the transmission fluids front to back were replaced. That being said you aren’t seeing any jerkiness at low speed. I was but only on near mirror finish tarmac in one car park.

The handbook for my i4 still showed completely the wrong gear shifter (think X6 type lever) for months after BMW stopped using them and went to a simple switch. They do have a bad rep for crap manuals.

No mention in the TIS of any recoding being needed. The Car Access System signal comes out of the diversity unit on a Blue/Red wire from Pin 3 on the left hand side of the module. It runs to the CAS module that is inside the dash. The wire arrives at Pin 33 via a connector in the upper dash behind ...

Le Shuttle? Is there a right or wrong?
Le Shuttle came back with a warning that my car is either very low (it isn’t) or very wide! I guess they’re trying to tell me the X6 (E71 version) has a big a**e

Has anyone on here got experience of using Le Shuttle to/from France?

Care to share? I’m not surprised at the diagnostics cost as these days nothing is free, but it sounds steeper than I would have expected. I did think that they could also upgrade BMW amps to allow Bluetooth media streaming on cars it wasn’t available tor back in the day.
