I understand these were an OE fit on some BMWs. Really great quality, but there is nowhere on a pre facelift E71 to mount them "nicely." I offered them up to an E70 as well where they would look good, but the enthusiasm has waned.
The kit is new, old stock, unused. However, one bracket is missing ...

Budget E70 going to bite me?
I thought a wheelbearing from first hearing it. But the recent service facility blamed the 'iffy' tyres. The car has my X6's winter rubber set on temporarily, when the refurbed wheels and new (budget) tyres are fitted, i hope i, or the service facility can pinpoint it. Its a bearing noise imo but ...

Budget E70 going to bite me?
So it is going to bite me regardless, it seems. It won't be going to a main dealer for sure but i need to find a good indy sooner than i thought I'd need one. The Bosch autocentre it went to this week was primarily for the central locking issue. All they said on that subject, was a new key was ...

Budget E70 going to bite me?
I've not really had the opportunity for extended driving since my acquisition, the X6 has always been massively underused, so the cheaper X5 kind of made sense to replace it.
However, it was serviced this week and i thought i'd get out and enjoy it. I have worries now though! On nice smooth roads ...

Very poor and very surprisingX5Sport wrote: Wed Apr 23, 2025 6:06 pm The handbook for my i4 still showed completely the wrong gear shifter (think X6 type lever) for months after BMW stopped using them and went to a simple switch. They do have a bad rep for crap manuals.

E70 diversity aerial
Thank you. Short of cutting open the tailgate grommets to check for broken wiring, ill have to gamble on a used diversity antenna. In theory i can always resell it i suppose, doubtless at a loss though

As this is a possible cause of non functioning remotes for locking/unlocking, is there any way to ascertain if its the culprit? Buying a used one is not difficult but if the radio functions perfectly, is the aerial really a candidate? Is it frequency sensitive and does it need coding ? I've seen a ...

The budget E70 has landed.......
A good news and bad news day today. Noted elsewhere, BMW are going to pay for the angel eye bulb thats a SoB to to replace.
Bad news is, after 36hours at a Bosch Centre the non functional remote fob still doesn't work., they advised i needed a new key. However, this didnt stop a bloody monkey ...

Isn't the old saying, its worth what someone is willing to pay applicable here?
Its a niche machine for sure, so obviously has limited market appeal. That said it appeals to me. Had i not recently bought a budget E70 i would be asking for the sellers details.
To return to the question, mileage ...

BMW have agreed to pay the dealer to replace this bulb while the car is having the front airbags replaced.
When i asked the dealer if this was an admission that the supplied handbook was woefully inaccurate, i received a rather bland non commital answer. Regardless, the outcome for me is the same ...

Update!
There has been much happening following conversations with BMW and my nearest dealership. £205 inclusive to supply and fit whatever this damned bulb is. I've asked for confirmation of the bulb type and whether wheel removal etc is necessary, if it is as I am advised, then the handbook is ...

Absolutely not your fault. My view is always that if supreme effort is required, something is probably wrong. Even bulb changes on modern BMWs is problematic. The heady happy days of anything being easy are long gone.

Well the later TIS for the rear lights seems inaccurate? Its not rocket science effort to prise on the light fitting as indicated, but the one side i tried wouldn't budge. Im wary of breaking things, nothing BMW badged is cheap.

Managed to find this under the switch cluster instructions. Not even mentioned under the lighting sections! Note the special tools are just plastic trim removers. The first is a wedge type and the second look like credit cards. If you have one, wear an anti-static wrist strap, if not make sure you ...
