BMW Headrests with built in screens - £££?

Post by ySo » Thu Aug 07, 2014 8:47 pm

How much are a set of genuine 2nd hand black leather headrests with the built in monitors to play dvd's worth?

Have someone with a pair asking for offers.. not a clue where to start.

Thanks

Hello I've found these, they look amazing for the price, you could get them re-trimmed in bmw leather or take all the stuff out and retro fit them into your existing BMW ones?

Thanks for the replies, found someone selling genuine bmw headrests in black leather with the built in screens and wiring for £100 + postage.

Anyone know how to wire them up? The previous owner upgraded the system to the satnav/dvd one and just told me all that's missing is the headrests/screens.

You seem to think that the satnav mk4 dvd drive can be used as a dvd player -it cannot, unfortunately.  It is purely and only a satnav which operates with a dvd providing data for the built-in satnav computer.

You will need to install a dvd player if you want to play dvds to the headrest screens - there are quite a few threads on this elsewhere on the forum. The headrest screens are wired up via removing the back of the front seats and running the wiring that way - again, there are some threads and maybe even how-tos on this.    Sorry to disappoint you about the satnav dvd drive though -it is purely for data for the satnav, no ability to play movies!

Those Ebay headrests have built in DVD players - just need power wired in - surely the easiest solution ?

I have the earlier version of the ones in the link and they work perfectly ok for the kids in the back. And easy to install. The rear lighter socket in my e53 d. Stayed live permanently though so found a cable in the centre tunnel instead. ImageImageImageImage
Surprisingly easy to install

You can see the difference between the standard headrest and the dvd one in the pic. They sit pretty well in the cabin.

How easy is to get the plastic backs off the seats ? I have a really annoying creaking coming from my drivers seat - I am sure its coming from behind the plastic cover.

M pretty interested in purchasing the ebay item listed above.  The only thing that has held me back so far was not knowing what the quality of the headrest was like, the installed ones in the pic above look pretty good and easily look bmw finish quality, is that your opinion also @beanfest ?

I will get some better pics as soon as I can for you.

The backs come off really easy  On the underside of the plastic back down in the footwell are 2 screw in style fasteners. Undo the screws and pull out the rest of the fastener by hand.
It then pulls very lightly T the bottom and slides. I can't remember if it's up or down it slides though  sorry. I'll get a pic of where they are aswell.
