Is brake sensor required for brake pad changes?

Is brake sensor for the pads or discs, as I need to change pads?

I did mine as a service item when I changed the pads all round.  They aren't expensive.  If it hasn't been triggered then it should be fine to re-use.  I chose to change as they were 9 years old.
