TCM location

Hi,
I'm urgently looking for the TCM on my 2006 3.0d. It's not in the box, rear of the engine compartment. Any ideas please

The technical manual says it is within the gearbox itself, right hand side. This is the only image I can find…A7000A

The automatic gearboxes 6HP19, 6HP26 and 6HP32 are mechatronic systems that unite both the mechanical system (gearbox) and the electronics (electronic transmission control ) within the gearbox housing. In the same way as automatic transmissions used to date, the adaptive electronic transmission control adapts the shift characteristics of the comfort program and sport program to the driver's choice and the driving situation.

The only other listed locations are in the electronics box under the bonnet, just ahead of the firewall.

Module A7000 (image may be from LHD so could be the other side on RHD).

OK, thanks. I won't be touching that then. I have an intermittent problem. Just driven 150km,no problems. Then 4x4 light comes on followed by Transfailsafe. Before, dealer changed the mechatronic socket. They said the transfer case was at fault. I've had that checked by a specialist, it works find. Actuator working fine and cog complete. Alternator changed (Bosch). New battery and SAS going on tomorrow. When the fault happens, it seems all CAN related. Did a live test, all speed sensors within 1km of each other. Only things left seem to be abs module, unless you've got any ideas please.

Have you got any error codes at all? I would have expected something triggering those kind of dash warnings to also record in the system what was triggering them. It might be wiring rather than a module and finding intermittent errors is incredibly frustrating

I've not connected it to ISTA again yet. On my small diagnostic tool I've got:
DTC
Brake Distribution
No CAN identification (EGS)
EGS Signal line disturbed
5EC5 DSC Steering Angle CAN
5F42 Limp mode
CF07 Transmission Control PT CAN

Not sure if you can see anything through these.
I've felt it's a damaged cable all along. I have disconnected the connection on the gearbox, cleaned it and reconnected it - then drove 150km problem free. It was a bugger to get off but when I seated it properly, it went back together quite easily. I think whoever at BMW changed the connector didn't seat the male part properly.
I'd like to check with a tester the Ohms at the connector, but not sure where the other end is?

Not sure if this will help but I had a number of K-can faults on the E70 that were driving me bonkers. Then checking in the boot with the trims and covers out of the way in the main loom I moved a spliced cable joint, 5 green wires in what looked like a clear sleeve 2 wires just fell away.
The sleeve looked black in side cut it away and the joint was so corroded it fell apart. It seems BMW or whoever produces their looms had decided a no solder twisted compressed joint covered by the clear tube was OK? I remade the joint using solder and covered it with heat shrink close inspection of the rear main loom I found 4 other splices of the same kind to be safe I remade them all. Battery reconnected and a scan allowed all Can faults to be cleared and no re-occurances.
A check of the wiring diagram showed K-can to be 2 wires Green and Green/orange

As your car is a later model 2006 they may have adopted this type of joint, worth checking also check the earth points BMW love common earth points one of theose was a source of issues with the 4.6is
