A funny thing happened on the way to the airport….

Just got back from a couple of weeks away in SW France, and had an ‘interesting’ incident with the X6 on the outward journey.

We left on 14th Aug, which if you remember was one of the very hot days we seem to be getting these days.

Part way around the M25, the car throws a red ‘brake pad wear’ warning but nothing appears in Check Control with the fronts still showing 30k miles and rear 16k miles remaining. No nasty noises either. Car felt and drives just fine.

Got to Gatwick, parked up to check in and when I went back to the car 10 mins later and switched on, no warning! Huh!!

Drove home again last evening and still no warning, and none appeared on route (about 100 miles) home. Ran the scanner over the car this morning and sure enough there’s a rear brake pad wear warning logged, but with a ‘fault not present’ tag.

The wear indicator system is AFAIK a single use, once it’s hit that wear point then the sensors (and pads) need replacing. Everything looks fine so I’m a little puzzled. I can only put it down to being heat related and as everything has cooled off, there is no ‘real’ problem.

Anyone else seen this in their BMW?

Id probably try to get a look at the inner pads as the wear indicator is on the outside pad but the inners tend to wear faster anyway but its probably just a glitch in the matrix :driving:
