RDS-TMC Data missing?

I’ve noticed that although my 2011MY X6 is still showing a ‘TMC’ symbol on the idrive nav screen, I’m not actually showing any live traffic data alerts about delays etc. The last two journeys with Nav enabled have shown no traffic data at all in the car even though the TMC is showing as active..

It’s supposed to be broadcast with Classic FM as a sub-carrier by INRIX. It definitely isn’t affected by the 3G shutdown that has killed off the telematics other than the eCall system which can drop into 2G. UNRIX have recently stopped supporting certain Pioneer receivers, but no mention of BMW (though I can’t remember who manufacturers ours).

Anyone else seen this on their E70/71 or other models of that vintage?

UPDATE

It looks as if INRIX also stopped supporting all BMW systems as of 1st June 2026. You;ll see a signal but no data now.

Why BMW Is No Longer Receiving RDS‑TMC
INRIX UK ended RDS‑TMC transmissions on 1 June 2026.
Pioneer publicly confirmed this shutdown, noting that all devices depending on INRIX’s RDS‑TMC feed would stop receiving broadcast traffic data.

BMW used the same national RDS‑TMC feed, so the shutdown applies equally to BMW navigation units (CIC, NBT, NBT Evo, etc.).
