Upgraded wheels
Upgraded wheels
I seem to have noticed lately whilst driving around at work a number of x6's with after market alloys but they don't look wide enough on the rear. There is a chap who lives near me with a beautiful white x6 4.0d that has it looks like 22inch alloys on it and it looks great from the side but when you look at it from the rear the rear wheels are the same width as the front not wider like the standard alloys. It just looks odd, you would have thought by spending probably a couple of grand on new alloys the garages would state that they should be wider on the rear than on the front or do they not do a wider aftermarket wheel for the rear? Not being snobby or anything because most of the ones I have seen are newer than mine it's just I hate to see a car like the x6 just not looking right, or am I as the missus says just being a nerd

Re: Upgraded wheels
Not being nerdish or snobby, but most aftermarket place don't gve a sh!t! They'll happily take your money if you're oblivious to the fact.
Also, many aftermarket alloys are not wider at the rear or deeper dish, etc. That's where spacers come in handy.
Most owners do see a notable difference and the fact 'something' is not quite right after they go on.

Re: Upgraded wheels
Probably bought a set off eBay and the seller had them as 'Genuine BMW Alloys' only they're actually cheap copies that will crack the first time they're put under a heavy impact on UK roads.
There are lots of 'lookalikes' out there, but I personally would not trust them. They may be absolutely fine, but there have been some horror stories in the past about cast alloys that weren't really up to the job. Probably perfectly good on a car, but maybe not so good on a 2-tonne wagon. But then again, some folks can't afford the kind of expenditure that a full set of good wheels and tyres might cost.
