BMW X5

Post by io1901 » Mon Jul 09, 2012 5:03 pm

Well after many months looking at Q7s, XC60, XC90, Touregs and all sorts we decided to buy a 2012  Space Grey X5 3.0d M Sport with 20" wheels.  It has enough room for daughter, two dogs and a bit of luggage and not feel "squashed in".
So far very pleased with it and is very easy to drive and after a Audi A6 a great view of the road. But worried about lots of comments that it's not great in the snow- so will perhaps have to buy some winter wheels come October!

.......ooh he's quick today.... :)) :))

Welcome aboard...... :ok:
It's not so much that they're 'not good' in snow, it's more a case of the 20" wheels are a bit ski like..... :drive:
A good set of 19" alloys of fleebay and a set of winter rubber will sort it though...

Welcome aboard and sounds like a nice motor. Look forward to the pics.

Don't worry about the X5 and snow, etc as it will be fine even with 20's. This lot just like to spend your money. Just get a set of upgrade 21's instead...  >:D

Ordered them yesterday.  BMW winter tyre kit 211 19" alloys from local dealer. Did think about getting them from elsewhere - the the difference in price didn't cover that they will change the wheels (and collect and deliver the other wheels to my house FOC). They did say that BMW will store the wheels but it would cost £100 a half year.  I now have to make space in the garage for the huge summer tyres!

Jeez, that's expensive!!  My Dealer only charges £80 a year to change and to store the X6 sets - and it's free for the first year.  I have no space to store the 'off-car' set (20" set is as you say 'huge'!!) so it's a good deal for me as storing them elsewhere would be at least as expensive plus there's the hassle of shifting them about too.

Seems the Dealer storage charges are a free for all!!

BTW - That set is £2360 from Alloywheelsdirect - and some dealers will store them even if they didn't supply, but that also seems to be a free for all!!

I got them a bit cheaper than that - but not a lot.
