iPhone 4 cradle
Hi all,
Well I had my 3GS phone cradle all in my X5 all working fine. Got an IPhone 4s as a gift so ordered a 4s cradle.
My problem is I can't get the new cradle to seat it's self properly. It front section clips in right but the back section does not seem to connect into the electrical plug, it does not seem to go down low enough even with some force applied to it.
Has anyone come accross this befor ? Or know of a solution ?
Regards Si.

iPhone 4 cradle
Just tried popping mine out and reconnecting. I put the front in first and then clicked the rear in (where the connector is) with only mild pressure.
This is a photo of the base:

When I last changes cradles between cars I recall it was a bit of a biatch but does go in. Test twice and push [hard] once:-)

Re: iPhone 4 cradle
Is that correct? From the Z4 guys, I understood that you had to modify the cradle for it to fit in properly.

When I ordered mine, they needed to look-up all the options from the chassis number as apparently there are a number of cradles depending on what you picked.
I must admit I rarely use mine as I always forget the phone when I get out! It should sound an alarm to remind you

Re: iPhone 4 cradle
Well the part number on the back of my cradle is 84.21-2 199 389-01
Mine does look exactly the same as the one pictured in post 2. It's only really for the charging function that I require it as I spend most of my day out in the X5 driving from job to job.

My 4s cradle is part number 84.21-2 199 392-03.
The date on bottom right corner on mine is different to above and says 15/6/11.
On left side it also says hardware 3.0 not 2.0 as above.
It clips in pretty easily more or less front first then a gentle click.

I just upgraded to the 1006 update from the BMW.com site as it seemed like it enables SMS messages on iPhones but no such luck.
Wondering if my cradle is now an issue as its version 2?

Re SMS, get mine fine via the iPhone displayed on the idrive screen. It's via Bluetooth so no need for iPhone to be in cradle
Can't get whatsapp to display tho which is a shame

Hi Bob, do you have an E70? Mine was built Aug 11. I am pairing with an iPhone 4.

Re: iPhone 4 cradle
I'd like to order the same thing for my 2003 E53. Which part number is right for me? Is it 84.21-2 199 392-03? and where did you order it from? Cheers

Finally managed to get to work after picking up some tips off the web and a bit of playing around. I think this the summary from memory:
1 - deleted the Bluetooth pairing for the iPhone in both the idrive and iPhone Bluetooth settings
2 - repair them and ensure the device is configured in idrive for phone and data
3 - in iPhone Bluetooth settings under the device "BMW xxxxx", ensure show notifications is on
4 - under the notifications menu on iPhone, I set the "messages" and "mail" so that notifications were on, using banners and enabled view in lock screen - I left show preview disabled as I don't like parts of the email or message content visible when locked.
5 - turn ignition off and leave the car for a while - I think it needs the idrive to effectively power off (reboot!) before it works.
The next morning when I sent a new message (it doesn't see existing emails or texts), I then got the little message icon and I could access then via the Office menu!

Just got my wife's X1 working too. Looks like the prerequisites are, must be on IOS6 on the iPhone and update 1005 on the iDrive (downloaded to USB from bmw.co.uk or over the Internet if enabled in the car).
