Compressor type noise heard after engine switch off?

Post by FLUTE » Sat May 24, 2014 9:20 pm

Hi, I gave just parked my x5 up and when i jumped out I could hear a compressor type noise from the front wheel/ bonnet area lasting about 10 seconds! Is this normal? I have only had the car 3 weeks and it's the first time I've heard this. Also had an I on the dash light up, may be a coincidence.

[/quote]Probably the air suspension compressor, ours sometimes comes on for a few seconds when we park on our drive.

If you can hear the compressor then usually it is a sign that the piston ring is wearing out. This company makes a replacement kit.

Definitely worth getting it checked.
Mine does it when I unlock the car but that's due to the rear suspension air bag leak which I'm hoping to get done today

Could it possibly be the handbrake coming on?

Mine used to make a noise whenever I put the handbrake on, which admittedly wasnt often.

It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end
