New tyres - Are run-flats essential ? What have you fitted?
Re: New tyres - Are run-flats essential ? What have you fitted?
The answer is - depends how long you have run it flat!
If barely at all it can be repaired if you can find a specialist to do it-the chains won't !

Re: New tyres - Are run-flats essential ? What have you fitted?
Many tyre places will not repair a run flat as it is difficult to tell if any damaged has been done by running the tyre soft.
If you have not ran the tyre soft at all and you are sure, you might get an indi tyre dealer to sort it at your own risk. But as already said none of the big chains will do it as it is not recomended.
If anyone wants a runflat tyre fixing in the North East I should be able to get it sorted out for you

Re: New tyres - Are run-flats essential ? What have you fitted?
Thanks for everybody's advice, much appreciated.
Problem solved. 2 front tyres were worn out, and my back left had a nail in it so now was the time to look on ebay for those 333m alloys I've always liked. I found these BMW X5 333m alloys on ebay with a brand new set of Bridgestone tyres included in the sale. They came from a 2011 X5 originally. Really happy with them.
Plus I've just bought a black chrome grill too. Fitted at the weekend. Will post pic.

Re: New tyres - Are run-flats essential ? What have you fitted?
Hi Guys.
I bought a set of winter / snow tyres last November from the internet. The company was called TYREMEN.
Check out their site on the net. I ordered online on a Sunday afternoon, and byn 10 am Monday morning they emailed me to say they had been dispached to my local tyre fitters place, they arrived on the Tuesday, and had them fitted on the Wednesday. Free delivery and only £ 170 each for 285 45 19. £ 155 for fronts. Superb quality and price.
Try them for price.
I fitted normal tyres to replace runflats on my E60 5 series, and it transformed the ride, lucky enough their was a spare doughnut spare in the boot when I bought the car. when I had them fitted noticed a vibration at 75 MPH, took back to tyre fitters, they took it up on the ramp and spun the wheels, you could see that the rims were buckled, due to the run flats and low profiles having no give over pot holes.
fitted a new set of replacement rims and ride was perfect.

They are OEM. They came of a 2011 X5, from BMW. I paid a guy £1650 inc tyres plus fitting, balancing etc ! They have some very minor scuffs but nothing bad. Could get them refurbed for £450 but not worth it. New set of tyres would have been £1200 so a great deal i think ! Plus I might sell my old M sport wheels, should get £700-800 maybe?
What car are you getting. Another X5. The 50d maybe !?

Hmm, I wonder how much longer it's going to take for BMW to do the decent thing on warranty length? To me that shows a distinct 'lack of confidence' in their own products.

You have to pay for it but it is £900 for the extra 2 years as opposed to more than that for one you with BMW.

Who said we're in recession !! Two new cars this year then ?! I assume you're an Insolvency Practitioner or Banker !!
Unfortunately the photos in your opening post on the thread don't open. Can you put them up again ? Sounds like a nice Boxster, would be nice to see a pic.
The guys at Evo specced up a new Boxster S to £73k recently !!! nothing comes as standard on a porka

Oh yes ! Much better. Thanks.
Looks stunning. They have finally sorted out the interiors in Porsches. My brother had a Boxster S years ago and the interior was shoddy to say the least. The new Boxster is a huge leap forward by all accounts. Chris Harris recently said "all the car you'll ever need"
Enjoy it roof down, if we ever get a summer again !
