In value for money terms I recommend rear sun screens and heated steering wheel.

+1 these are two options I would order time and again.

I forgot, I have got Heated Steering wheel.

Azurite Black............I wanted carbon black but you cant get carbon black on an SE. Its carbon black with a touch more blue. Have a look on google. Just stick in there BMW Azurite Black.  I prefer it to carbon black now  and in the flesh looks very very nice. I haven't seen another X5 Azurite Black. Probably because it was extra.

Nat.

I did have a quick look on google, and getting the slight blueness.  Will look out for it at the local showroom.

That was my preferred colour, but couldn't justify the £1k extra ...  Isn't Carbon Black the closest you can get to it without paying extra?  Personally I'd prefer to drop the money on toys...

Pano roof will always be a must have for me, the extra light that comes into the cabin is great. Ruby Black is one of if not the best colour IMO. Do like Huck's colour as well (forget the name)

Nat, what made you go the SE route?

Options are very a personal choice. The price is crazy on some of them though  :o I'm just glad that you new car buyers to spec your cars so well, they make for nice used examples for us used car buyers  :)

Agree Chomps, Pano roof was ace on my E70. Really worthwhile, I feel.  Even though the kids were quite small when we had it, they still remember the 'big sunroof'.

The colour on my X6 is Midnight Blue. At the moment, it's just Filthy Dark Type colour. :(

Totally agree about your point about well specced used cars. Weird thing is, my E70 was fairly loaded (pan roof, HUD etc) but the previous owner had not specced heated seats. I thought that was a bit odd.

I was also warned that if you listen to music the standard speakers are poor so might be worth upgrading. [/quote]

I find the standard setup pretty good.

Not as good as the Bose on my previous Audi but not too far off.

To answer the question, I went for the SE over the M sport because Im not a mad fan of the way the Msport drives. Its hard and harsh IMHO. I know I could have got an Msport and gone Msport suspension delete. The Mrs wanted the running boards ( not available on the Msport ) and I had seen too many Msports with horribly scuffed sills where people/kids had been treading on them. Im not sure they are designed to be stepped on are they? The ones I saw looked very flimsy.  Wheelarches suffer from paint being sandblasted off. Seen plenty of those . Also wanted comfort seats .  Above all I desperately tried to buy a car with a beige interior and could not find one. My first X5 was topaz blue with beige and I regret selling that car. Black is practical but dark so I can see why you would have a sunroof there. I hate grey as it looks like an elephant and even worse is the Oyster ( pale beige seats with black trim and carpets ) which just looks wrong to me ( personal choice and no offence to oyster owners out there ) As for aproved used I really looked long and hard and couldnt find any with the options I wanted, there was always something missing or something or two that would need to be changed. Also i know 3 guys who have Msports @ work all of which said they would swap their msports for an SE if they could. I dont like the Msport wheels (333 is it ) and prefer the 214's, but they are not interchangeable which sems stupid to me. Also. carbon black is a current colour, but you cant have it on an SE.lots of things like that.
Ther are 2 other reasons I bought it. 1. Its possibly the last of the good looking BMW's.  So many cars these days are just so ugly, and I have seen the new X5 coming out in sept and its an overgrown X3 and I hate the X3. Also buying an X5 as its coming to the end of the 7 year model life  cycle, most/all of the issues should have been sorted so this thing should be trouble free. 2.  I got such a good discount of an individual car it was almost stupid to refuse.....................no really , the deal i got was astounding.

Regards

Nat.

Just how good a deal Nat?  I brought my last E53 in early 2006 thinking it would be trouble free as it was nearing the end of production run.  Sadly I was very wrong!  I do however believe it was just a bad car as can happen and in no way a reflection of what your car should be like.  BMW threw in some excellent package deals at the time and the car was £48k before discount.  With out the packages, the same spec was nearer £54k.  I ended up paying £42k so felt like a good deal.

Im not sure I should put numbers on here.....................but

Car was £62,500.

Paying shade under £50,000 with service inclusive.

I think thats a good deal.

Nat, I've just had another look at your spec. Are you getting a very exclusive double heated steering wheel?
