3.0D changing Catalytic Converter

Morning

I've had a terrible rattle under the drivers seat for some time, and a strong fume issue from the rear of the car for some time.

ATS have looked and said the cat is totally knackered and needs replacement. I've crawled under and just with a good shake it does indeed rattle like mad.

My question is, the part on GSF is around £150 with discount. It looks DIY'able, just some brackets, new gaskets and bolt it back in etc. Could it really be that simple?

ATS want nearly £600 to replace it, and a local indy has quoted £495+vat.

Any advice would be appreciated.

In fact, just crawled back under the car having looked again on RealOEM.

It looks like i'd need to cut the OEM system, install the new bit and use some clamps to join old and new with a  bit of paste?

I'd consider myself quite handy having worked on LR Defenders for some time, but worried about the complexity of the exhaust system etc.

I bought one for my old 840 Ci a few years ago from ECP and my indie charged me 2 hrs labour to fit. Better than 750 quid I got quoted for supply only from the dealers :)
