Temp Gauge

Hi everyone
I've recently notice that my engine temperature gauge is only reaching the first white mark after the blue segment (around 11 o'clock). I'm guessing it's a dodgy thermostat but welcome anyone's input?

I have the same problem, is the thermostat easy to replace?

Def sounds like a Thermostat. If they break in o[pen position it allows water to circulate constantly. This means the car will not reach optimum tempreture. You may find that your MPG goes down.
Not fitted on an X5 but was very easy on a Z3. I imagine that its a simpe job as there is lots of room around th engine.

Definitely sounds like a thermostat to me. They're usually designed to fail open, as a cold engine is far less of a risk than an overheating one. Does the temperature creep up if you're stationary for a while ?
Shouldn't be a hard job to replace it.
