European road trip update

Today we've started our journey home, spending tonight in Zurich. 2800 miles so far, having set-off from home on Saturday 2nd May. The X3 hasn't missed a beat - but the brake pad sensor cock-up you probably read about.

Tomorrow we travel to Nancy, Wednesday to Reims, Thursday to Calais, Friday through the tunnel to Derby spending Saturday there then home on Sunday.

I have to say, I've enjoyed the driving more than I thought I would. I'd rather drive pretty-much every day for four weeks over here than just one day in the UK.

Plans are already being formulated to do something similar in Autumn next year - Mrs. wants to see the olives and grapes being harvested in Tuscany.

Oh, and the car has never been so filthy!

I drove in France last summer and found it remarkable easy. It was my first time driving abroad and the driving was supposed to be shared with HRH (supposed!) but ended up with me doing it all.

Like you have, we went out and back via the Tunnel and then down to the Dordogne region via Tours, Le Mans, Poitiers and back via Rouen. The X6 never missed a beat which given the temps were in the high 30s/low 40s and a 15 year old car was impressive. Even the mpg was better!

We only ended up in a major city (Rouen) once as I missed a turn to the Autoroute which meant needing to be a lot more awake to local traffic, but we survived.

Doing a fly-drive next time - the driving will be shared :D

This was the OBC when we got home.

According to my calculations, it actually did 39.1mpg.

Sounds like a great road trip and a solid test for the X3. That return route via Zurich, Nancy and Reims is a nice way to break up the drive.
