It is possible to use the regular sized ones, but it is much easier if you use the larger ones for coaches/ minibuses etc.
We used the regular one on the way out. It was tight in the E70, but my brother who at the time had an ABT Q7 ended up 'kerbing' his newly refurbished wheels!
We used the larger carriages on the way back and it was much better. The larger carriages are taller and more importantly wider.

You can go in the normal carriage but try and get in the coach one. Generally quite easy to do, 98% of the time we bring the track cars back in that one - only problem is the kids love them!

I have taken the E70 a few times in the tunnel. The height is no problem, I find the width more of an issue but if you don't have a roof rack and the train is busy, they might still put you at the low side (I have booked high side before and they still put me in the lower decks).

as everyone else has said it is possible but is quite a squeeze.....height is no problem though.
Only ever gone through on the high carriages in the van so dont know how easy it is to book but i assume that you just say that youre vehicle is overheight.
Tend to see things like Disco's and RR's on the high carriage side so im assuming there are no problems

Agreed. With 20" wheels , there's only a couple of inches to spare .. but fortunately the curbs are low and so far (touch wood) no wheel damage .. though lots of squealing from the tires. Height not a problem.

But they are metal curbs and that worries me!

Got to say the pic of the kerbed wheels makes me cry :cry1:
I know understand why you definitely want the larger carriage for your X

I assume hat the E53 will be a bit better, as it's slightly narrower? I'm booked for a crossing in December.

According to Wikipedia width of e53 is Width 73.7 in (1,872 mm)
The e70 has 2 widths not sure why
Width 1,933 mm (76.1 in)
M: 1,994 mm (78.5 in)

My E53 was fine going through a standard garage (2 metres wide/high) but the E71 is too wide.....as Bonnie says, it's got a fat arse. At least I think that's what she was referring to..... O:-)

An extra 2 inches makes all the difference !

Likewise, the E70 is tight and you have to watch the wheels but it'll fit either way.
If you don't book the coach wagon when you book Eurotunnel they may not let you on it during busy periods as technically it fits in either the ground or top deck.
