E70 Panoramic Roof Stuck Open

Hi All,
I travelled from Surrey to Leicester yesterday and I purchased a 2007 E70 4.8i SE, I checked everything on the E70 thoroughly including the Panoramic Roof! I checked it opened/closed 3-4 times.
I got home to show the parents and opened the tilt function, the driver’s side is now stuck open and will not close but the passenger side will open and close fine. I have spoken to a specialist and he said it is likely to be a damaged cable and will require a Cassette rebuild at a cost of £960.00 + VAT :'( :'( :'( :'(
Does anyone know any other specialists near Guildford, Surrey and does this sound like the correct diagnostic.
Thanks in-advance.

No matter if you purchased the car from a dealer or private seller if it was advertised with everything working and no fault was mentioned you could have a claim against them for the repair cost. Its all down to how it was advertised and any desciption that was used in the advert - if the add mentioned the panoramic roof and didn't disclose any faults then you do have a claim as it was sold to you not as descibed. Talk to your local trading standards or citizens advice but you will be suprised at the level of protection you have even when buying from a private seller.

Hi
I disagree................you tried it and tested it more than once.
There was no way either you or the seller could have known when it would fail. You cannot disguise the sunroof fault. It either works or it doesn't.
Whenever I have sold anything I always put on the receipt " sold as seen tried and tested by .................. No warranty implied or given ".
Not because I am looking to have anyone over but because you cannot " legislate " ( for want of a better expression ) for mechanical failures.
I know that doesn't help the poor sod with the broken roof, but £950 + vat sounds cheap to me.............when BMW replaced my pan roof, just the roof was £2500 , + the labour................don't even ask.
Pan roof............thats why I dont have one. Utter trouble and misery for what ? It has not stopped farking raining in this country for 2 months.
Regards,
Nat.

A dealer would struggle to enforce sold as seen on a vehicle, depending on the purchase price.
It should have some kind of warranty.
I love my pan roof.
