How to remove the phone cradle?

I seem to be badgering the forum with questions recently. It's just that I finally have my E70 since Monday, so my learning curve is steep for now. Please bear with me...

I dislike that huge phone cradle that came with the car in the oddments centre console. Whatever phone it fits is no doubt obsolete.  I'd rather have that space freed up for easier access to the console.  I did a search and came up with this http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php/t ... l#msg18370 where a chap wanted to remove it just long enough to inspect the wiring.

OTOH, I want to get rid of the cradle for good.  I can follow the instructions in the attached thread to get it loose, then I will forge ahead on unplugging, insulating and tucking away of the wires as possible.

But, will unplugging that phone cradle cause any faults in the iDrive system?  Has anybody BTDT?

Thanks for any tips,

It takes a snap in adapter for your phone.  Looking at your spec you can easily put one of the iPhone plates in - it goes in place if the blanking plate, connects the phone to the external aerial and contains wiring to stream music via a USB loom to the iDrive.

Are you sure you want to lose it?  Given the smartphone integration options you have, that might be a shame.  It does lift so you can get under it.

This page on Realoem shows the phone adapters at the bottom of the page.  Apple, Nokia, Blackberry, Siemens etc.  it even allows you to have your own personal WiFi hotspot in the car.  BMW release new adapters to fit newer phones.

I may have been misled by the local BMW dealers here in France. Two of them told me that it was only available for Samsung telephones. That could be a French particularity. The French market is a bit odd in many respects. Thanks for the heads up, I will do a broader search.
