Amazing unplanned jump on RR tracks

Post by RenoHuskerDu » Fri Jun 20, 2014 10:04 pm

This car boggles the mind. Navigating a twisty country road yesterday at about 65mph, I suddenly came upon an unmarked RR crossing, just over a rise. The pavement was uneven and at that speed I could see that it was going to be a bit of a jump, despite braking hard just before I hit it. I saw scars on the upcoming pavement where other vehicles had landed ungracefully.  I was uneasy, to say the least.  An M3 would have left its chin spoiler on the road there.

But the X5 landed with no drama, just a solid thump, and no sensation of the dampers reaching the end of their stroke. I was thunderstruck. I've owned many nice cars but never one with the suspension this well sorted out.  I usually keep it set in 'Sport' mode and that may be what saved the day in this event.

An amazing car.  Truly amazing. We are lucky chaps.

Indeed. Uncontrolled RR crossings are exceedingly rare in France.
